KOMMUNE: SCHOOL of PERFORMING and VISUAL ARTS PHOTOGRAPHY

If you want to learn how to shoot music and dance, and would also like to take on wider areas like ballet, theatre, the visual arts, hair and make-up, and the fringe arts like tattooing or burlesque, Kommune is offering 9 places in a new part-time course.

This is your start to working as a photographer in the arts industries.

The Kommune school of Performing and Visual Arts photography kicks off for 2011 in late January, at the Alphington studios in Melbourne.

9 places are available for part-time students. All you need it a commitment to photography for pleasure and profit, as well as basic digital skills.

21 intensive shoots and workshops will kick-start your photography in the arts industries. Studio access, mentoring, and printing access will lead to a solid additions to your folio.

Some basics: most sessions are Tuesday evenings and nights at the Studio in Alphington. Shoots are in groups of 3 students. Small model fees might apply to some sessions. Studio access is available at other times, along with mentoring and folio review.

The course covers:

  • Mastering the visual elements to achieve personal style
  • Research and inspiration
  • Kowing the art forms and their imagery: the secret to great photos
  • Camera skills: exposure, aperture and shutter, media options, focus techniques, lenses, perspective and optimum camera settings
  • In-camera colour management
  • Working as a director: managing artists with confidence, establishing your creative role
  • Location strategies
  • Studio skills: studio flash, lighting, studio management
  • Image processing in Adobe Photoshop.
  • Developing an impressive folio, achieving personal style
  • Working as a designer: your post-shoot skills
  • Maximising your product for impact and profit
  • Developing an online presence, your blog and website
  • Business management and marketing
  • Communication skills and networking
  • Assignments and presentation skills
  • And of course, the shoots.
